Welcome to Wilshire Hebrew School!

Imagine a Hebrew School where kids don't want to miss a day. They walk in with a smile and walk out humming a Hebrew song. Imagine a child who feels the warmth and spirit of Judaism, and then imagine the pride of their parents. That's the school we've built on the Wilshire Corridor, and we'd love to welcome your family.

About Us

Wilshire Hebrew School is the children's program of Chabad Wilshire Corridor, and our doors are open to every Jewish child, from every kind of home, no matter their background or level of observance. From TK through 5th grade, children here don't just learn about Judaism. They live it. Through Aleph Champ Hebrew reading, hands-on holidays, and the heroes and stories of our people, every child builds a foundation of love, pride, and belonging that lasts a lifetime. Because however you nurture a tree while it is small, that is how it grows.

Get Started With Our School

Hebrew Reading

Through the acclaimed Aleph Champ program, children learn to read Hebrew at their own pace, building real confidence in prayer and reading.

Creative Lessons

Happy Environment

Children come for the friends and the fun, and leave with a Jewish pride that lasts a lifetime.

A Typical Tuesday

Every Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00, our classrooms come alive. Children arrive to friendly faces, settle in with their teacher and classroom assistant, and dive into a lively lesson brought to life with a slideshow, songs, and hands-on games. They climb the Aleph Champ reading ladder at their own pace, earn Hebrew School dollars for the Prize Store, and head home a little prouder to be Jewish than when they walked in. It's learning that feels like the best part of the week.

Our Programs

Teffila

Together we dive into the prayers and learn what they mean. The children learn the Shema, how to make the blessings on different foods, and the mitzvot of tzitzit and kippah. Most of all, they come to understand the importance of prayer and our connection to G‑d. We sing the songs that make davening something children look forward to, songs they will carry with them for life.

Jewish Studies

Alongside Hebrew, our children explore the holidays, the heroes of the Bible, the mitzvot, and the story of our people through the acclaimed CKids curriculum. The lessons are brought to life with an immersive slideshow and followed by fun games, so the children learn in a joyful, positive way. That is always our goal, to teach with an encouraging and positive spirit.

Aleph Champ

At the heart of our program is Aleph Champ, the highly praised Hebrew reading program. Modeled on the karate belt system, it breaks Hebrew reading into ten colored levels, and every child works at their own pace. Each new level a child earns is a real moment of pride, and it keeps them climbing higher. Step by step, children go from recognizing their very first letters all the way to reading Chumash with fluency.

Why Jewish Education

“The pursuit of knowledge for its own sake, an almost fanatical love of justice, and the desire for personal independence — these are the features of the Jewish tradition which make me thank my stars that I belong to it.”
Albert Einstein
The World As I See It, 1934
“G-d refused the patriarchs and refused the prophets. Only when the Jewish people answered 'our children will be our guarantors' did He give the Torah.”
The Lubavitcher Rebbe
Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson
“Nothing is so acceptable to G-d as the prayers and blessings that come from the lips of pure children.”
The Baal Shem Tov
Founder of Chassidism
